Hunting Season Means Its Time To Break Out The Orange

Hunting season resumed September 14th. Its bows hunting now for deer.  Help the hunters to see you better by wearing blazon orange.  Avoid wearing browns and whites.

Some suggestions to help stand out and increase safety are a cheap but effective orange vest.  These can be purchased at the big chain department store in your area.   These fit over your bike gear and help you stand out.   Some hardware and farm fleet stores also sell Orange Duct tape to add to your helmet.  The key to a safer ride this fall is to do all you can to stand out.

One other personal and practical suggestion is to avoid ride during the prime hunting times of the day.  I avoid very early morning rides and wait till 9 am.   I like to roll off the trails and back to my car for a brew with friends by 4 pm.  In other words avoid the couple hours immediately after dawn and those approaching dusk.  That said, the fact is you are by far more likely to be injured in a tumble on your bike or an unplanned encounter with a pine.

Here is the url to the DNR 2013 hunting schedule.
